I have been photographing nature for over 25 years. Many of my images reflect travel to National Parks and other scenic areas in North America and beyond. However, I have a special affinity for nature images found close to home. Of special interest are birds and other animals in the wild, natural landscapes, the occasional zoo or domestic animal, and the works of man when nature is the predominant theme.

My background is in engineering, where I worked for 40 years. I have engineering degrees from Lehigh and Northeastern Universities. I started as an individual contributor in electronics hardware design, taught microprocessor circuit design at Merrimack College and developed and taught several design courses for technical staff while working for Bell Laboratories. I became a team leader early in my career, and progressed to Vice-president of software engineering for two high tech startups.

My interests outside of work are exploring and learning about the natural world. I have a strong interest in conservation. I was leader of the Bay Circuit Trail committees for the North Shore of Massachusetts. I contributed photographs and writing to several published trail guides, including a chapter on the Bay Circuit Trail in the AMC “Massachusetts and Rhode Island Trail Guide”. I led the successful effort to create a new State Forest in Rowley, Massachusetts (Prospect Hill). The site protects a vital trail link in the Bay Circuit Trail a rare seaside drumlin habitat. I am currently a volunteer for the New Hampshire Audubon Dragonfly Study, and also participate in a study of effects of herbicide spraying of aquatic plants on waterfowl for NH Audubon.

My photography education comes from seminars, workshops, reading, on-line courses and experience. I was greatly influenced by the late Galen Rowell. whom I got to know at his outdoor photography workshop. I also attended a seminar given by Stephen Johnson on digital photography and a seminar on creativity presented by Sean Kernan.

I am a member of the Newburyport Art Association, the New Hampshire Society of Photographic Artists, the Seacoast Art Association and the North American Nature Photographers’ Association. I am a field contributor to Nature Photographer Magazine, where I have had several photographs and articles published. I have exhibited my prints in the NHSPA art show in Exeter, the North Hampton Library, the East Kingston Library, the Newburyport Art Association Juried Shows, the Seacoast Art Association, Portsmouth Regional Hospital, the New Hampshire Institute of Art and at Exeter Hospital. I have donated prints of my photographs to the New Hampshire SPCA to raise funds in their annual auction.
